MCA eForm attachments under 6 MB

MCA21 eForms carry attachments — board resolutions, financial statements, directors' consents, proofs of registered office — and the portal caps them at around 6 MB. Company secretaries hit the cap in two ways: a scanned annual report that is simply too big, or an attachment that was just under the limit until the digital signature pushed it over. KBcut shrinks scans before you sign, leaves digital PDFs alone when they already fit, and splits what cannot fit into parts.

What the MCA21 V3 upload checks

Caps on this page follow published portal guidance and commonly reported limits as of September 2026. The portal's own notice or on-screen error always wins — type its number into the cap box if it differs.

Why a generic compressor gets this wrong

The order of operations is the whole trick with MCA attachments. A DSC signature embeds a certificate chain and, often, a timestamp — enough to push a 5.9 MB file over the line. Once signed, the PDF cannot be touched: every compressor, including KBcut, rewrites the file and breaks the signature. So set the cap a little below 6 MB — 5.5 MB is a sensible working number — compress the unsigned attachment here, then sign and attach. If a scanned annual report still will not fit, split it into parts, sign each part, and attach them in order.

How to do it

  1. Select the unsigned attachment PDF.
  2. Set the cap — 5.5 MB (5632 KB) leaves room for the signature — and keep Colour on for printed financials.
  3. Press Cut to size, then sign the downloaded PDF with your DSC and attach it to the eForm.

Questions

My PDF is already signed and over 6 MB.

Compressing it will break the signature. Compress the unsigned original here and sign again, or split the unsigned original and sign each part.

Will the financial statements stay readable?

Text PDFs that already fit are returned untouched. Scans start at 300 DPI and step down only as far as the cap requires.

Is 6 MB per attachment?

It is the commonly cited cap. The eForm and the V3 upload screen show the enforced limit — use that number.

Are company documents uploaded to KBcut?

No. Everything is processed in your browser and the files stay on your computer.

How much room does a DSC signature add?

It depends on the certificate chain and timestamp, typically tens of KB. A working cap around 5.5 MB leaves comfortable room for signing.
