The e-Aadhaar you download from UIDAI is a password-protected PDF. The password is the first four letters of your name as printed on the card, in capital letters, followed by your year of birth — so Suresh Kumar born in 1990 types SURE1990. How it works

Password format: first four letters of the name in CAPITALS + year of birth (YYYY).
Spaces are skipped: "Sai Kumar" born 1990 becomes SAIK1990.
Dots and other characters in the name count as letters: "P. Kumar" born 1990 becomes P.KU1990.
If the name has fewer than four letters, use the whole name: "Ria" born 1990 becomes RIA1990.
Use the name exactly as on the Aadhaar, not a nickname or a different spelling.

Why doing this in your browser matters

UIDAI locks the e-Aadhaar because it carries your photo, address, date of birth and Aadhaar number — which is also why you should not unlock it on a website that uploads the file. PDFkey does the whole job in your browser. One more thing people miss: e-Aadhaar is digitally signed by UIDAI, and some places check that signature. The unlocked copy is the same document without the lock, but it no longer carries a valid signature, so keep the original PDF for any service that verifies it, and prefer the Masked Aadhaar when you only need to show your address or photo.

Questions

It says the password is wrong.

Check the spelling of the name exactly as on Aadhaar, the year of birth, and whether the name starts with an initial and a dot. Try typing the password yourself in capitals.

Is the unlocked e-Aadhaar still valid?

For printing and most uploads, yes — it is the same document. Services that verify UIDAI's digital signature need the original locked PDF.

Should I share a full e-Aadhaar?

Only when the form really needs the number. Otherwise use a Masked Aadhaar, or hide the first eight digits with Mask Aadhaar / PAN.

Is my Aadhaar uploaded?

No. The PDF, your name and your year of birth stay in this browser tab. PDFkey is not connected to UIDAI and cannot see your data.

Is this an official UIDAI tool?

No. PDFkey is independent and not affiliated with UIDAI. It only opens a file you already have with a password you are entitled to use.
